paper craft research

Sher Christopher's is a paper artist who uses intricate folds and other paper folding techniques to create cartoonish figures of historically inspired characters. Christopher uses accurate human anatomy in a caricature like style to create works of art with well done and recognizable character design. there is an obvious level of meticulous detail and planing put into each 3d model that's Christopher creates.

Christopher is a female British paper artist who has a fairy tale like body of work. She creates personal and deep pieces like a self portrait of her reaction to her mothers tumour, as well as cute and fun pieces such as the Scottish bagpipe player I have included in this blog. Her portfolio is also filled with many characters taken directly of directly influenced by classic literature as well as European culture.

Christopher uses a scalpel to cut thick sturdy load bearing pieces of paper and uses super glue to combine them, creating curves and curls by wrapping and bending the thick paper around various metal rods to get that smooth look her work has. the paper she works in is similar to card stock.

I choose to research Sher Christopher because I liked her use of character design, creating characters that have a very obvious visual history or recognizable iconography which helps us visually access information from each work of art smoothly and easily. This is a skill set I have set out to achieve this next year, hoping to create and work with character design. I also gravitated to her work due to her working in the field of anatomy, a subject of art I have much interest in as my own art more often than not explores the human body.
