3D mashes
Remix culture is the appropriation of recognizable iconography often using contrast and pop culture to create a new message or emotion via skewing, mashing, or changing multiple existing images or objects. Remix culture often aims to create a new message using absurdity and juxtaposition. It relies on existing imagery that has a common knowledge to a mass populace which already evokes an existing emotion or idea. The combining of recognizable images is then used to convey a new message.
for this image I wanted to use the contrast of Christian iconography with medieval and nautical images, I'm attempting to create an image that connects us to a religious concept while leaving a mystery to exact setting and belief. I want it to look both recognizable and foreign.
for this I combined the pedestal to evoke the feeling of historical and cultural prevalence with the hand and the skull to tie it to a human life and death cycle. I then chose to add the garbage spewing forth in the attempt to elicit the feeling futility, destruction, and absurdity.
this here is Jesus with the head of the demon ball from big trouble in little china and the hands of a zombie. I am again trying to skew religious iconography.
For this image I wanted to combine the sword handle and contrast it with something soft and living, trying to exhibit juxtaposition.
this is someone throwing the horns as a snail head, with this one I wanted to create something humorous as well as gross and creepy.
Albert Einstein with bouquet of Satan horns, for this is was trying to capture humor as well as duality of scientist the brought about massive discoveries as well as discovering nuclear energy.
I wanted the space man to be dwarfed by the hands to create an image of discovery and cosmic mystery.
Stephen Colbert on the head of more religious imagery, for this I wanted to highlight cultural contrast pf where people get and develop their beliefs.
A fish knight with chopsticks, I liked the idea of pledging loyalty via the image of our own destruction, not unlike knights of old.
babies in a Hellraiser pyramid, for this I wanted some large cosmic feeling combining a Halloween costume and a paper weight.
